Wed, 19 Nov 2008 14:36:05 PST-To compare Bob Stoops and Mike Leach at first seems like a study in opposites. One is the son of a football coach who built his reputation on a stingy, aggressive defense and puts forth a straight-laced persona that rarely cracks. The other started out admiring the game from the stands, got his law degree before rising in the coaching ranks and then constructed the most productive offense of the...
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 22:32:15 PST- It is a first (and a second) for the Bob Stoops era.
Many times over the past 10 seasons Oklahoma has played huge football games, even huge regular-season games, even late in the season. But for the first time there appears to be as much on the line for the opponent as there is for the Sooners. Also, only one other time has a game been anticipated with the same intensity as the Red River Rivalry, OU's annual contest with Texas played at the Cotton Bowl and surrounded by the Texas State Fair.
That occurred when No. 1 Nebraska faced No. 3 Oklahoma in Stoops' second season (2000). That year, OU had an extra week to prepare for the Huskers.
This time around, the Sooners are again coming off an off week.
But so is Texas Tech.
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 13:40:25 PST-Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford doesn't remember much about last year's loss to Texas Tech that knocked the Sooners out of the national title hunt, and he's not just playing coy. Bradford was also knocked out -- taking a hit to the head in the first quarter that put him on the sideline with a concussion.
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 08:28:55 PST-Texas Tech has never beaten Oklahoma on the road under Mike Leach. Another week, another never-before to conquer for the nation's No. 2 team. And in a season flush with firsts for the Red Raiders, a win in Norman against No. 5 Oklahoma on Saturday would give Texas Tech its only Big 12 South title and move it closer to playing for an national title.
Mon, 17 Nov 2008 08:05:00 PST- Throughout this week we'll listen as Oklahoma and Texas Tech explain the challenges each other face heading...
Sat, 15 Nov 2008 14:01:28 PST-All-America center Courtney Paris scored 18 points to move into second place on Oklahoma's career scoring list and the fourth-ranked Sooners opened their season with an 88-57 win against California-Riverside on Saturday in the Preseason Women's NIT. Paris needed only seven points to pass Molly McGuire, and she had that many midway through the first half.
Wed, 12 Nov 2008 19:37:16 PST-No one ever complains when, near the end of a grueling college football season, an opportunity comes along to regroup and refocus before the home stretch. No. 5 Oklahoma (9-1, 5-1 Big 12) gets that chance with an off week before next Saturday's Big 12 South showdown with second-ranked Texas Tech (10-0, 6-0).
Sat, 08 Nov 2008 16:28:47 PST-Sam Bradford threw touchdown passes to four different receivers, Chris Brown ran for three scores and No. 6 Oklahoma started fast again and routed Texas A&M 66-28 on Saturday. DeMarco Murray, Matt Clapp, Ryan Broyles and Juaquin Iglesias had TD catches and Bradford had a touchdown run for the Sooners (9-1, 5-1 Big 12), who set a single-game scoring record for an opponent at Kyle Field.
Thu, 06 Nov 2008 00:35:22 PST-Quentin Chaney has spent most of his time at Oklahoma waiting for his next chance to make an impact. He was the odd man out when the 2005 freshman class arrived, loaded with talented receivers that would entrench themselves as the Sooners' playmakers for the next three years, and even into Chaney's senior season.
