In Youngstown, he was caught between Cleveland and Pittsburgh and his mind seldom wandered to the opposite end of the state. "Youngstown's a long way from Cincinnati," said Stoops, who is Oklahoma's head coach.

The fourth-ranked Sooners are coming a 57-2 whitewash of Tennessee-Chattanooga that confirmed everything everybody was pretty sure they already knew—OU remains strong at quarterback, running back and receiver.
Yet even as the defense pitched a shutout, none of the preseason questions were put to rest after one game. The Sooners also seem to understand the answers will start coming this week against the Bearcats, who, though unranked, have apparently made believers out of the Sooners. Tue, 02 Sep 2008 18:02:43 PDT-Two University of Oklahoma athletes stabbed at a nightclub during a brawl that reportedly involved guns, knives and tire irons were identified by police on Tuesday. Football defensive end Frank Alexander and freshman basketball guard Ray Willis sustained knife wounds during the Sunday morning altercation, officers said in a news release.

Details were immediately unclear, but the university characterized the players as victims in the early Sunday incident at the Sooner Knights club in southwest Norman.

"Right now, John's just mentally having a hard time staying with it, and right now we don't anticipate him rejoining the team," Sooners coach Bob Stoops said Monday after practice.
